"BOLT NECK" GUITAR NECK INSERT KIT - I put "bolt" in quotes because
they're not bolts, they're screws, but that's another story, not to mention a marketing
challenge. The pics on either side of the kit above are of my '01 American Strat
that I installed the kit on during a complete refurb in Sept '08. Click either pic
for a larger image.
I install threaded zinc alloy inserts standard on every bolt neck guitar I build
with excellent results. There have been a number of people who have contacted me
after looking at the Onyx Forge site asking if they could buy the hardware to fix
a problem neck. I put this page together to help out my fellow players who have
a bit of mechanical aptitude. I offer just about everything needed to do the job
other than a screwdriver and hand-held drill. The inserts and screws in the kit provide over 548 lbs. of clamping pressure
per screw when tightened to 18 inch - lbs of torque (hand tight - do not overtighten).
That translates to roughly 2,195 lbs. of pressure on the 6.56 square inches
between the bottom of the neck heel and the neck pocket, or 334 lbs / sq. inch.
That pressure essentially transforms your guitar's neck and body into a single piece
of wood.
After installation, you will see improved sustain over the stock configuration.
The installation will look the same as the original. Additionally, the neck can
be removed and reinstalled repeatedly without fear of stripping the holes. These
same inserts are installed in fabrication jigs at the shop and have been used
hundreds of times. If you're a better guitar player than mechanic, I can install them here for $65 +
return shipping of the neck only. If you ship the entire instrument, I'll install
the inserts, check / adjust the setup and restring the guitar for $115 + return shipping. ----------------- BUY VIA PAYPAL OR CREDIT CARD VIA PAYPAL - BUY VIA CASHIERS CHECK, PERSONAL CHECK OR MONEY ORDER -

If you have owned a commercially built bolt neck guitar for any length of time, you may have
had problems with one or more of the drilled neck holes stripping. A
tight body / neck interface is essential for maximum tone and sustain. A bolt
neck guitar can have as good or better sustain than a set or neck through design
IF the neck to body interface is done correctly and is tight. I can honestly say
that the sustain of a bolt neck guitar set up this way rivals a one piece guitar.
I'm one of a few builders who's made a one piece and the only one I know of that
has made the comparison.

Customer Feedback -
"Hi Roy,
Tim Smallwood here, I'm just putting my guitar thru the paces and even though I
have a cheap amp, the guitar sustains like a monster. I'm using an Allparts
body and neck, maple neck and board with medium frets, and your bolt kit and I'd
say that the sustain has improved probably 25%. I'm shocked how much more lively
the guitar sounds. It's just amazing! From now on, any guitar I have that is a bolt
on guitar will be using your Neck Bolt Kit."
God bless,
Tim Smallwood

Wanted to give you some feedback:
I've had some trouble with one of the neck screw threads on my Am Std. Strat
because of the neck shim I use, so I looked into threaded neck screw inserts.
Found your webpage and thought I couldn't do too much wrong for 25 bucks. So I
ordered 2 sets, another one for my Tele. Installation was a breeze with the
optional drill insert and the hex wrench even without a drill press (just an
electric hand drill) - other than I expected. :-) And it did not just improve
neck stability and sustain on the Strat! My Tele ('94 Am Std. / Barden pups /
Callaham bridge / RS kit) was already a pretty resonant guitar, but that mod
turned it into a sustain monster. Really!! I even had to lower the bridge to get
to my former action, so I figure the neck really came closer to the neck pocket.
Nice treat for a quarter of a bill!."

I wanted to thank you for offering this kit, and the fast shipping. The installation
went easier than advertised. I noticed an immediate difference as I was bringing
the strings into tune - the whole bass felt like it was coming alive. You are
correct about the sustain and tone, and I hadn't even plugged it in yet!
Thanks again."
Best regards,

I installed your threaded insert kit on a Mexican Fender P-Bass I found on eBay.
I am amazed at the difference! The improved sustain is just as you said and when
I pick it up, this bass actually feels stiffer. Amazing. This is a project bass
and I'm very happy I made your threaded inserts part of my project."
