SPECIFICATIONS:
BODY: A custom VIP with bookmatched highly figured flame maple over swamp ash.
It features a contoured heel and Wilkinson tremolo. The unfinished body weighed
in at 3 lbs. 14 oz. due to hollow body construction. Custom mixed aniline dye
under nitrocellulose lacquer. Unfinished body by Warmoth.
NECK: 25 1/2" scale maple on maple with a natural nitrocellulose lacquer finish. 10" - 16" compound radius; Paua Abalone dot inlays; Eric Clapton profile; stainless steel 6115 frets that bend notes like butter. The unfinished neck was supplied by Warmoth. Finishing, setup, fret leveling, crowning, and polishing by Onyx Forge.
CONTROLS / SWITCHING: The switching on this guitar is unique. The pickups are Seymour Duncan Custom - Customs at the bridge and neck, with a Cool Rails in the middle position. The two Customs are controlled by a 6 way rotary switch configured to run both humbuckers in full or split in-phase mode. The resulting signal is controlled by a single volume knob. The Cool Rails is wired in opposite phase, and is controlled by a push / pull volume knob. The "in" position is the full pickup, "out" is split. This guitar produces tones that range from trebles that will remove the paint on the walls to fat jazz tones. Due to the switching, this instrument has more tonal range than most any factory guitar, and without a single tone pot. The full tonal range is smoothly executed by subtle variations / interplay of the two volume knobs in any given switch position.
ONYX FORGE FEATURES: Custom aniline dye mixed and shot on test pieces with
the customer present (he got exactly what he wanted); metal inserts in the neck
for rock solid neck / body interface using 18-8 stainless steel machine screws;
conductive paint in the pickup and control cavity, as well as the back of the
cover plate; electrosocket machined aluminum jack cup with 18-8 stainless steel
screws; custom switching / wiring designed with the customer's input;
Dunlop Straploks.
